"The Best is Yet to Come" is the theme for the 2010 season for the Green Lake Festival of Music as it begins its 31st year of providing great classical music to the Green Lake/Ripon area.
"This season's artists will provide an entertaining and educational summer for our audiences," indicated Jeannette Kreston, Executive Director. From French Canadian Celtic music in the historic Boston Barn to tango music by a premier quintet at Ripon College, this season will have something for everyone.
The free opening preseason preview concert in June will showcase two young stars-Ryan Olsen on the trumpet and Kristina Nyberg on the piano for a wonderful kick-off to the summer.
The Festival's annual gala will feature Linda Purl, star of Broadway, film and television. This will be a one-of-a-kind, elegant, and enjoyable event at the magnificent lakeside home of Lars and Mary Lofgren.
The next artists to share their music with Festival audiences will be the premier Washington, D.C. quintet, QuinTango, who will delight us with the tango's journey from the immigrant neighborhoods along the Rio de la Plata to the gilded salons of Paris and finally to the international concert stage.
In July, the Amelia Piano Trio returns to direct the annual chamber music camp on the Ripon College campus and to perform Chopin at the historic Thrasher Opera House. Eric Zuber, the 2007 Hilton Head International Piano Competition winner, is recognized as one of the leading young American pianists of his generation.
The ever-popular concerts at the barn will return this year with the chamber camp Circle of Sound Strings, the international dinner, and a dynamic French Canadian Celtic group called Le Vent du Nord. The chamber camp ends with its Chamber Extravaganza the next evening and concert-goers cannot believe their expertise!
This year the Festival has added a very special concert to its lineup. In appreciation of our senior audience members, Calland Metts and Sarah Lawrence, along with the soloists from the Choral Institute, will perform an afternoon concert with music from stage and screen. On Friday, July 23, popular husband and wife duo of tenor Calland Metts and soprano Sarah Lawrence will return to Thrasher Opera House to perform more of their favorites for our audience.
To end the GLFM season, the Chorus of the Choral Institute, which runs from July 22-25, will perform a finale concert with guest artists Bella Voce, a Chicago-based choral ensemble, with orchestra and soloists. Bella Voce performs classic a cappella repertoire, early music of the Americas, and contemporary music from all over the world.
